Mandela Day 2018 marked 100 years since Nelson Mandela was born and the centenary was an opportunity to reflect on his life and legacy and follow his call to "make the world a better place. The RSA Group celebrated Mandela Day 2018 yesterday in various ways.
RSA Joburg, Tshwane, Cape Town, Durban, Bloemfontein and Springs, in collaboration with The Mike Loutfie Foundation and Meals on Wheels, served soup and bread on the market floor from 5am. The produce was supplied by RSA Market Agents and the soup made by Meals on Wheels while the bread was purchased by each of the RSA businesses. There was a selection of soups on offer including potato and leek, butternut and minestrone soup and it is estimated that more than 5000 people benefited by starting their day yesterday with a warm cup of soup and some bread.
RSA International paid a visit to Matjiesfontein Primary School, a small school of 70 learners from Grade R to Grade 7. International donated fresh fruit which will be used in the school's feeding scheme for its learners.
Staff from Federated Farmers visited JOSH (Johannesburg Organisation of Services to the Homeless) where they worked for 67minutes packing food parcels with fresh fruit and vegetables that they had donated and then handed them out to the homeless people whom JOSH supports.
Well done and thank you to all the RSA employees who contributed in some way. RSA appreciates your 67 minutes (or more) and we look forward to doing this again next year.
